FILMMAKER. TRAVELER. FATHER. COOK

Hao Wu is an Emmy- and Peabody-winning filmmaker whose work explores identity, family, technology, and the forces that shape contemporary life. His films have been twice shortlisted for the Academy Awards and have received honors including the SXSW Grand Jury Award and New York Times Critics’ Picks recognition. His work has been released by Netflix, MSNBC Films, Paramount+, Amazon Prime, PBS, BBC, and The New York Times Op-Docs.

Born in China and based in New York, Hao came to filmmaking after an earlier career in science and technology. His curiosity often begins on the road — in unfamiliar cities, around dinner tables, inside families, and across cultures. When he is not filming, he is usually traveling with his children, cooking for friends and family, or following ordinary human rituals that often become the emotional center of his films.
